Infrastructure consulting is sort of vague I guess. I’ve had a lot of people ask me what that means… Well Casselberry Consulting LLC can help if you have performance issues, or your network or systems keep going down. We can help if you are spending too much money and getting too little out of your IT investments. We can also help ensure that projects go smoothly.
In the past few months here are some of the projects we have worked on.
Network and security assessments and roadmap planning. We helped a few companies figure out of they had bought the right products and were using the properly. NAC (Network Access Control) from Extreme Networks can be a great tool to help reduce risk of your company getting compromised, but not if you buy it and never get around to rolling it out. We helped perform an assessment of how the current deployment was done and what the next steps were to get it more fully deployed.
PCI compliance log management. Part of PCI-DSS is a requirement (#10 if you care) that you must log is happening and review them on a regular basis. It’s not really a difficult requirement to meet, but it does mean you need to invest is some sort of product and process to be able to prove that you are doing it, and more importantly, to get value out of the investment. Our customer needed to meet this, so we deployed Splunk and created customer PCI dashboards and documentation to meet the audit requirements.
Last week we also helped a large (Fortune 500) review how their Riverbed WAN optimization was performing and assist with developing a plan to standardize across their 60+ sites for better results and easier management.
Later this month we will be assisting with some advanced network troubleshooting. Many of us have had those times where everyone knows something is slow, but no one thinks it is their fault. The DBA’s blame the storage team, who blames the server admins who point to the network and although everyone looks, no one can find the real problem. That’s where we help. We find the problems and help fix it.
In general though we act as advisers, team members and Ghostbusters for your IT team.
